Spiders as well as their cobwebs only serve as environmental decorations. The spiders can be killed, but they cannot be eaten, or interacted with in any way. The most common place for them to appear is beneath rocks and they crawl away when the player picks their shelter up.

Trivia

• The game files mention a "Recluse" spider, which is a real spider with a necrotic bite endemic to North America (wikipedia), but the ones currently in game look more like a tarantula or a wolf spider.
• There are files for a Recluse "attack", "hit", and "death" animation, implying it could have been planned to make the spider a hostile animal.
• In the game files, there is information regarding spider poison. It is possible that spiders will be made poisonous in the future, which is possibly why they were made that they can be killed
