Raccoons are passive animals that were added in update v0.07 to The Forest.

Gameplay

Raccoons are some of the rarest animals in the game. When killed and skinned, they drop 2 meat, 1 raccoon skin and 1 raccoon head. Unlike most small animals in The Forest, raccoons can only be killed with two hits from any weapon. It is noted that they are nocturnal only in patch notes for v0.31, however they can be spotted during the day and they make distinctive rustlings while nearby. Raccoons are well sought after v1.0 implemented the warmsuit, this is the only current use for raccoon skin in the game:

Locations

Raccoons can be found most often in the open grasslands of the Peninsula. They seem to frequent the vertical mid-eastern pond on the plateau that runs along much of the eastern coastline.

They can also be found in the middle of the northern region of the map (near the Cockpit). Hunting them in this region at night is easy, as the snow reflects the moonlight and contrasts against the animal's dark fur, making them easier to spot.

Trivia

• A glitch was discovered in 1.06 that attacking a dead raccoon with any weapon will cause occasional Sodas and Snack bars to fly out of the body. It is yet to be patched, and the cause of this glitch is unknown. It currently stands as a reliable food and water farm.
