Stews are a cooking system that was added to the game in v0.69. Stews provide extra fullness, health, energy, calories, and hydration, dependent on the recipe.
Gameplay[]
To make a stew, you require an old pot. Place the old pot on a lit fire, you can then start adding ingredients. It will start a 30s cooking period after which stew will be ready to eat, providing extra Health, Fullness, Calories, and other benefits, especially if made correctly as a recipe. If it water is added, it can remain on the fire up to 10 minutes, after which time the pot will fall off the fire, and can be collected by the player.
Recipes[]
The recipes for stews are extremely strict. If one ingredient is wrong, the recipe will fail and you won't get the benefits of the stew. You will still get the benefits of the ingredients individually, but you will lose the bonus. The kind of Meat, Mushroom or Herb doesn't matter for the recipe, but does matter for the base values of Health, Fullness, and Energy, that the recipes are going to multiply in different ways.
These are the basic recipes, in their most simple form, and the rule they follow in order to increase their content.

Stew Mechanics[]
- Meats added to any stew, have their spoilage status set to fresh, so you can add any meat, spoiled included, and receive no penalties.
- All meats, no matter their listed calorie count will provide 600 calories per meat. This is a great way to get more calories out of meats, including small meat, fish meat, and large meat
- Hard survival mode causes food to provide fewer benefits. This makes stews more viable in hard survival mode
- Jack and Amanita Mushrooms WON’T injure or make the player sick if they are used in a stew
- Blueberries will provide some hydration when used as an extra in a stew
- Arms, Legs, and Heads will reduce sanity by 3 no matter how many you add to a stew
- Every herb has a different value benefit in a stew
- Aloe in stews WILL NOT cure sickness or infection, save these for crafting or curing
- Oysters are NOT classed as meat
- For making Tisane for healing, you shouldn't use Aloe, but Coneflower instead, as it has the same benefit and Aloe can be used for infections and sickness
- All herbs give 5 calories in a stew ONLY IF meat is added to the recipe, otherwise they give 0 calories in stews
- All mushrooms give 10 calories in a stew ONLY IF meat is added to the recipe, otherwise they give 0 calories in stews
- Head has 600 calories, but its energy, health and fullness values are VERY LOW. It's essentially useless for values, but good for calories
- In the Tisane recipe, you get 0.2 (or 20%) more Health for every herb added. That means, 5 aloes or coneflowers without water will give you 50 health, but in water (tisane) will give you 100 health. 4 aloes or coneflowers without water provide 40 health, but in tisane it provides 72 health
- If water is used in a recipe, it will always provide 100% hydration.
Ingredients[]
The icons in this table are ones you see in game, it matches the order they appear in. If you had all 20 ingredients in your inventory at the time, this is how they would appear. Note that some icons are currently duplicated, such as meat, small meat, chicory, marigold, and coneflower.

The table shows what multipliers each recipe applies on its ingredients. Some examples:
- One (1) Small Meat alone (no recipe therefore gives only the stats of the ingredients), heals 10 HP, just like Fresh. If one (1) Marigold is added, the recipe becomes BBQ, and therefore heals 10*0.8 = 8 HP.
- Five (5) Coneflowers alone, (no recipe) add up to heal 5 * 10 = 50, just like eaten raw. If water is added, the recipe becomes Tisane, and therefore heals (5 * 10) * (1 + [0.2*5]) = (50) * (2) = 100.
Update history[]
Version | Changes |
---|---|
v0.70 | (Multiplayer) Fixed adding ingredients to a stew as client not updating cooking time for all players
It is now possible to gain specific bonus when cooking a stew with various ingredient combinations Fixed stew being usable from distance when it completes if not targeting it |
v0.69 | The cooking pot can now cook stews, making it possible to combine meat, mushrooms and berries or any combination. Each food item has it’s plus and minuses and so experimenting with the best recipes is encouraged. A lizard stew with mushroom for example will give an energy boost whilst also filling your stomach.
It is now possible to cook a stew with the cooking pot ! After adding the pot filled with water on a fire, add a choice of 20 ingredients (8 meats, 6 mushrooms, 4 herbs and 1 berry and oysters), it will start a 30s cooking period after which stew will be ready to eat, providing hydration, fullness and other benefits based on recipe. Can remain on the fire up to 10 minutes. Note, you can also add ingredients to pot without water, however this will not provide hydration and will burn food extremely fast. |
