Gameplay[edit | edit source]
It can be brought up by pressing the map key,
M by default. Like the survival guide, it has a clip-on reading light. The player's current position is indicated with a red thumbtack. As of 0.65b, the game's exploration objectives and achievements are tied to map completion rather than physical checkpoints, and players cannot make progress on these before they've obtained the map. Therefore, it is advisable to visit Cave 2 as soon as possible to minimize unnecessary backtracking.
The map system has gone through some changes in the games history. When introduced in v0.19, it was a 4 piece system and the player had to find all 4 pieces to complete the map. In v0.27, it replaced the piecing together map and relies on player exploration. The map pieces are still in the game files and can be added with mods or console commands, though they don't work anymore and they are quite bugged.
Completed Maps[edit | edit source]
Location[edit | edit source]
The map can be found in Cave 2 (the 'Hanging Cave'), the closest entrance can be found in the main village, inside one of the huts. When you die the first time, you also get dragged to this location, the place where you are hanging is extremely close to the map, as well as the compass.
Third-Party Maps[edit | edit source]
TheForestMap.com hosts a detailed satellite-style map of the peninsula, though it often lags behind the wiki in update progress. Caution is advised because items, enemy spawns, cave entrances, etc. may have moved.
There are also maps that have been created by players/fans of the game that have become outdated. They can be found here.
