Drowning is a condition that affects players if they stay underwater for too long and let the blue meter empty completely. It also affects cannibals and mutants, who die almost instantly upon entering water, most of the time.

Gameplay[]

When the player goes underwater they'll see a blue bar in the middle-lower section of the screen that begins to empty, If the bar empties the player will begin to Drown losing health at a very fast and alarming rate. (worsened by the fact the player swims very slowly...)

How to avoid[]

  • Don't go into water.
  • Stay near the top so you can quickly get your breath back.
  • Equip the rebreather to greatly increase the length of time you can stay underwater.

Warning[]

As of update v0.67, If you die to a shark or by drowning, you will not be able to be revived. This means all your stats will be reset. You will lose all your strength and athleticism gains. Consider reloading if this occurs.

Bugs[]

  • Although water does break your fall, falling into deep water makes the player instantly begin to drown in most cases this causes the player to die before they have a chance to resurface.

So always try to find a way down instead of jumping.
