The coaster is a custom building added in update V1.10 to The Forest. It can be built once the schematics are collected from an underwater cave off the southern coast (see the schematics page for more details.)

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

The coaster's main use is for sledding with the turtle shell. When starting a sled from the top of an angled coaster, the sled will accelerate to its maximum speed very quickly, allowing for exit ramps, thrill rides, or other uses. A guard rail made of sticks is present on the sides to prevent the player from sliding off prematurely, possibly leading to an untimely death by falling.

Notably, coasters also serve as cost-efficient and ideal ramps up steep inclines, as well as bridges across bodies of water. Unlike custom stairs, coasters consist of multiple interconnected segments rather than a single ramp, meaning that they can turn corners, alternate size and slope, and provide greater flexibility. Unless built from near-maximum steepness, coasters can be climbed on foot without needing to jump. Construction of coasters is also more accurate, owing to the fact that custom stairs will acquire a slight offset to each step when completed, and the coaster will not.

Note: Sharp turns will often cause guardrails to overlap in the interior of the turn, and not exist at all in the exterior. Gentle turns are always preferred between segments!
