Building is a gameplay aspect that allows the player to construct objects such as fires and shelters using accessible material. Many damaged structures can be fixed using the Repair Tool.

Types of Buildable Structures[edit | edit source]

To build structures, use the Survival Guide by pressing 'B'. After choosing a structure, player can designate where he/she wants the building to be placed. While designating, use 'R' to rotate the structure and 'E' to place it. By

pressing 'C' you can erase a structure's blueprint getting back any resources you already put into construction.

Fires[edit | edit source]

Fires may be used to cook food, provide warmth, to protect against the cannibals, or to attract mutants. 4 types of fires currently exist within the game:

Shelters[edit | edit source]

Shelters are one of the most important things in all of The Forest game. They are used for sleep which restore fatigue, and also for saving your progress. A semi-transparent house icon in the direction of the shelter, directs players back home regardless of their position on the map. This is advantageous to the player when adventuring, so they can always find their way home. Currently there are six kinds of shelters:

Food and Water[edit | edit source]

These structures will provide the player with food and water. Very useful and cheap to build resource-wise.

Storage[edit | edit source]

Storage constructions are great way how to keep your backpack free of resources, or important items like food, weapons, medicine, etc. Currently there are eight kinds of these structures: (In newer updates of The Forest the Snack Bar and the Medicine Cabinet can hold the same items in 1. Eg. Snacks can go into medicine cabinet and Meds can go into snack bar. They just become Small Cabinet (medicine cabinet) and Large Cabinet (snack bar) in your handbook.

The Large Cabinet holds 15 items and the Small one holds 10 items. (Large is more efficient).

To improve your own creative shelters, you can use the following custom additions:

Elevated Structures[edit | edit source]

These type of structures are build off the ground and can often be connected off one another.

If the shelters above don't suit you, a custom one can be created using the following components in a way that does:

Utility Structures[edit | edit source]

Utility Structures are structures that serve and be used to benefit the player.

Furniture[edit | edit source]

Furniture is used for decoration of your base/shelter or to share items in multiplayer. So far there are four types:

Decorations[edit | edit source]

As the title implies, most of these constructions are for decorative purposes only, although some of them may provides benefits like lamps, weapon racks or planters.

Traps[edit | edit source]

Traps are used to catch wild animals and get food easier, or to fight off mutants and cannibals.

Defensive Structures[edit | edit source]

As the name implies, these constructions are used to defend yourself from cannibal and mutant attacks.

Boats[edit | edit source]

Boats are constructions that have the ability to float on water and can get you through the sea safely. Right now there are 3 available types:

Effigies[edit | edit source]

These constructions can be used to scare off cannibals. To build them, you will need body parts from dead enemies or enemy effigies. So far there are 4 types:
